Back to Basics

Are you all bound up again in the cares of this world?

Is all the holiday weirdness adding to your load?

You’ve never measured up to your own expectations or everybody else’s — so chill! (Don’t go lay in a snow bank!)

Matthew 11:28-30  |  Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart; and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Saying and doing it are different!

Rest in JESUS!

Romans 9:18-20  |  So then, at his pleasure he has mercy on a man, and at his pleasure he makes the heart hard. But you will say to me, Why does he still make us responsible? who is able to go against his purpose? But, O man, who are you, to make answer against God? May the thing which is made say to him who made it, Why did you make me so? BBE

You can’t argue whether God is righteous or not. The definition of righteous is GOD!

Revelation 22:17  |  The Spirit and the Bride say, “Come.” And let the one who hears say, “Come.” And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who desires take the water of life without prices. ESV

The doormat we have become has a “welcome” sign on it!

The Apostle Paul Puts it like this:

1 Corinthians 13:13  |  To the present hour we hunger and thirst, we are poorly dressed and buffeted and homeless, and we labor, working with our own hands. Whenreviledwe ,  bless; when persecuted, we endure; when slandered, we entreat. We have become, and are still, like the scum of the world, the refuse of all things. I do not write these things to make you ashamed, but to admonish you as my beloved children. ESV

Romans 8:18  |  For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us. ESV

1 Corinthians 13:13  |  So now faith, hope, and love abide,t hese three; but the greatest of these is love.

THERE COMES A TIME AND IS NOT YET.
FAITH WILL NO LONGER BE REQUIRED.
HOPE WILL BE FULFILLED.
LOVE WILL PREVAIL.

Revelation 21:3  |  And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, thed welling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God.

DON’T TAKE MY WORD FOR IT!
TAKE HIS!

It has been said that man can survive for forty days without food … three days without water … maybe three minutes without hope!

Water and food are requirements of the body.

Hope is a requirement of the soul!

It comes down to this … and this is the question before suicide:

Why endure this curse on me if there is no end to it?

Because there IS an end to it!

THE LOVER OF OUR SOUL SAYS:

Revelation 1:8  |  I am the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the Ending, says the Lord, who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.

He is our blessed hope!

I have found that faith and hope are inextricably, (impossible to separate) linked in eight verses in the New Testament.

Faith testifies of a connection to an object. In our case the object is a person and that person is Christ. For hope to be real, the object must be real and unchangeable. In other words it must be true always.

Romans 5:2  |  Through Him we also have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice on the hope of the glory of God.

Faith is born, established and sustained in the Word of God and only in the Word — meaning you can believe Him!

Beware of high expectations and dusty Bible covers! Those conditions give birth to dissatisfaction!

Whatever your politics, whatever your religion, whatever your family traditions and whatever you’ve been told before about anything!

WHATEVER!

It all comes down to this: Jesus speaking!

John 5:24-25  |  Truly, truly, I say to you, He who hears My Word and believes on Him who sent Me has everlasting life and shall not come into condemnation, but has passed from death to life. Truly, truly, I say to you, The hour is coming and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God, and they who hear shall live.

Simple, actually!

Jesus said the following!

John 15:33  |  These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

Resolve this to be true in your own life and you will have peace!

RESOLVE IS ACTION, IT IS A VERB: To come to a definite or earnest decision about; determine (to do something). EXAMPLE: I have resolved that I shall live to the full.

Many these days are not at peace about watching the (their) world go to hell — you better get that way or you forfeit the life He has given you now!

By the way, I’m not going to hell, are you? Be of good cheer!

Genesis 2:7  |  And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

Quoted from, “The Dragons of Eden” (a book by the late Carl Sagan, November 9, 1934 – December 20, 1996) Noted astrophysicist, author and unbeliever.

“If a typical book contains five hundred such pages, the information content of a single human chromosome corresponds to some four thousand volumes (2 x 108/5 x 102 = 4 x 103). It is clear, then, that the sequence of rungs on our DNA ladders represents an enormous library of information. It is equally clear that so rich a library is required to specify as exquisitely constructed and intricately functioning an object as a human being.”

Question: DID IT (the human) ACQUIRE INFORMATION AS IT WENT ALONG OR WAS IT INCLUDED IN THE BEGINNING? Come on now, even the ancient Greeks knew that a thought required a thinker. Who thought up you?

Romans 1:22   |  Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools …

“One day at a time sweet Jesus, That’s all I’m asking from you.”

So the song goes … and a nice one!

I’m pretty sure Jesus had the idea first though. He put it like this …

Matthew 6:34  |  Don’t worry about tomorrow. It will take care of itself. You have enough to worry about today. CEV

Paul wrote:

2 Corinthians 6:2  |  In the Scriptures God says, “When the time came, I listened to you, and when you needed help, I came to save you.” That time has come. This is the day for you to be saved. CEV

By the way, It’s ALWAYS TODAY! Tomorrow NEVER gets here!!!

Numbers 21:5  |  And crying out against God and against Moses, they said, Why have you taken us out of Egypt to come to our death in the wasteland? For there is no bread and no water, and this poor bread is disgusting to us. BBE (Manna)

God was sustaining them! –the bread of life was coming down from heaven and they hated it! — I guarantee you, God is in your life to save you — not destroy you! — all our problems are solved by the Word of God! — God was teaching them to trust Him! Without trusting God you have no future worth having! — Does His Word disgust you?

Nonetheless, the bread continues!

John 6:32-35  |  Jesus then said to them, Truly I say to you, what Moses gave you was not the bread from heaven; it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven. The bread of God is  the bread which comes down out of heaven and gives life to the world. Ah, Lord, they said, give us that bread forever! And this was the answer of Jesus: I am the bread of life.

2 Peter 3:9  |  The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. KJV

Put in more contemporary language …

2 Peter 3:9  |  The Lord isn’t slow about keeping his promises, as some people think He is. In fact, God is patient, because He wants everyone to turn from sin and no one to be lost. CEV

or even try this one …

2 Peter 3:9  |  The Lord is not slow in keeping His word, as He seems to some, but He is waiting in mercy for you, not desiring the destruction of any, but that all may be turned from their evil ways. BBE

Hoping to change your mind, God leaves “the WANT TO” up to YOU … THAT is YOUR part! Is your will His will?

For those that insist that the book of Revelation is historical: I ask, when did this happen in history?

Revelation 6:13-17  |  And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind. And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places. And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; and said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?

Revelation 19:11  |  And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.

HEARD FROM ANY KINGS AFRAID OF JESUS LATELY???

Most 12 step programs are designed to get our dependence shifted from stinkin’ thinkin’ to Godly thought!

I knew a man once that said, “That’s the last thing I need — to be dependant!” He said, “I’m trying to get rid of my dependence, not start another one!”

Come to think of it, I don’t remember if I ever saw him again!

I know this today. I’m glad that God convinced me not to go it alone!

In our sorriest state, we were never along.

I’m grateful for that. We would never have made it!

NO MATTER WHAT IT IS … THE DEVIL’S SEDUCTIONS ALWAYS END BADLY. NO ONE ESCAPES!

Romans 6:9-11 | Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him. Use of Bibles (from Wikipedia)  | By convention, incoming Presidents raise their right hand and place the left on a Bible or other book while taking the oath of office. In 1789, George Washington took the oath of office with an altar Bible borrowed from the St. John’s Lodge No. 1, Ancient York Masons lodge in New York and he kissed the Bible afterward. [16][17] Subsequent presidents up to and including Harry Truman, followed suit. [18] Dwight Eisenhower broke that tradition in 1953 when he said a prayer instead of kissing the Bible.[19]

Theodore Roosevelt did not use a Bible when taking the oath in 1901.[20] Both John Quincy Adams and Franklin Pierce [21] swore on a book of law, with the intention that they were swearing on the constitution. [22] Lyndon B. Johnson was sworn in on a Roman Catholoic missal on Air Force One. [23] Harry Truman, Dwight Eisenhower, Richard Nixon, and Barack Obama each swore the oath on two Bibles. [20]

2 Timothy 3:16-17 | All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching the truth, rebuking error, correcting faults, and giving instruction for right living, so that the person who serves God may be fully qualified and equipped to do every kind of good deed. GNB

An inexperienced preacher was to hold a graveside burial service at a pauper’s cemetery for an indigent man with  no family or friends. Not knowing where the cemetery was, he made several wrong turns and got lost. When he eventually arrived an hour late, the hearse was nowhere in sight, the backhoe was next to the open hole, and the workmen were sitting under a tree eating lunch.

The diligent young pastor went to the open grave and found the vault lid already in place. Feeling guilty because of his tardiness, he preached an impassioned and lengthy service, sending the deceased to the great beyond in style.

As he returned to his car, he overheard one of the workmen say to the other, “I’ve been putting in septic tanks for twenty years and I ain’t never seen anything like that.”

Jesus Said:

Matthew 28:19-20  |  Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

3,000 Year Old Mummy

An archaeologist was digging in the Negev Desert in Israel and came upon a  casket containing a mummy. After examining it, he called the curator of a prestigious natural-history museum.

“I’ve just discovered a 3,000 year-old mummy of a man who died of heart failure!” the excited scientist exclaimed.

To which the curator replied, “Bring him in. We’ll check it out.”

A week later, the amazed curator called the archaeologist. “You were right about the mummy’s age and cause of death. How in the world did you know?”

“Easy. There was a piece of paper in his hand that said, ‘10,000 shekels on Goliath’.”

Jesus Said:

Jesus Said:

John 14:3   |  And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.

He also said:

Mark 13:34-37  |  It is like a man going on a journey, when he leaves home and puts his servants in charge, each with his work, and commands the doorkeeper to stay awake.

Therefore stay awake — for you do not know when the master of the house will come, in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or in the morning — lest he come suddenly and find you asleep. And what I say to you I say to all: Stay awake.” ESV

The Secret Burden

A much loved minister of God once carried a secret burden of long past sin deep in his heart. He had committed the sin many years before, during his Bible school training.

No one knew what he had done, but they did know he had repented. Even so, he had suffered years of remorse over the incident without any sense of Gods’ forgiveness.

A woman i his church deeply loved God and claimed to have visions in which Jesus Christ spoke to her. The minister, skeptical of her claims, asked her, “The next time you speak to the Lord, would you please ask Him what sin your minister committed while he was in Bible school.” The woman kindly agreed.

When she came tot he church a few days later the minister asked, “Did He visit you?” She said, “Yes.” “And did you ask Him what sin I committed?”

“Yes, I asked Him,” she replied. “Well, what did He say?”

“He said, ‘I don’t remember.”

When the ship pulls away from the pier we need to be on the ship or on the pier! Not on both!

When we hold on to self — we can’t hold on to Christ! Decide today!

Are you waiting for another bus or willing to chase the one leaving the station?

Did you just say to yourself, “I’ll think about it?”

There is no ‘un‘ in forgiveness,

Happy Resurrection!!

2That is the gospel, the message that I preached to you. You are saved by the gospel if you hold firmly to it — unless it was for nothing that you believed.

3I passed on to you what I received, which is of the greatest importance: that Christ died for our sins, as written in the Scriptures; 4that he was buried and that he was raised to life three days later, as written in the Scriptures; 5that he appeared to Peter and then to all twelve apostles. 6Then he appeared to more than 500 of his followers at once, most of whom are still alive, although some have died. 7Then he appeared to James, and afterwards to all the apostles.

8Last of all he appeared also to me — even though I am like someone whose birth was abnormal.

We must be born again and raised with Christ. This day is meaningless without the RESURRECTION of Christ and us with Him!

Don’t get it???

Don’t feel bad, I didn’t either, until I asked Him into my heart! We can put you in touch with Him by His power.

How to age with humor (from guy-sports.com)

(As told to us by Iris Belmont, aged 67)

“I feel like my body has gotten totally out of shape, so I got my doctor’s permission to join a fitness club and start exercising. I decided to take an aerobics class for pensioners (seniors). I bent, twisted, gyrated, jumped up and down, and perspired for an hour. But, by the time I got my leotard on, the class was over.”

What Does God Look Like?

A kindergarten teacher was walking around observing her classroom of children while they were drawing pictures. As she got to one girl who was working diligently, she asked what the drawing was. The girl replied, “I’m drawing God.”

The teacher paused and said, “But no one knows what God looks like.”

Without looking up from her drawing, the girl replied, “They will in a minute.”

1 John 4:12-14  |  No one has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwells in us, and His love has been perfected in us. By this we know that we dwell in Him, and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit. And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent the Son to be the Savior of the world.

ANSWER: He looks like Christ in us! The day approaches that we see His face.

Matthew 5:8  |  Blessed are the pure in heart! For they shall see God.

Are you drawing on God?

Don’t lose focus!

Why Doesn’t God Answer?

The preacher’s 5 year old daughter noticed that her preacher father always paused and bowed his head for a moment before starting his sermon. One day she asked him why. “Well, honey,” he began, proud that his daughter was so observant of his messages, “I’m asking the Lord to help me to preach a good sermon.”

“Well, then, how come He doesn’t do it?” she asked.

The preacher’s fasting is using less of his own stuff and using more of God’s!

1 Peter 2:1-3  |  Therefore laying aside all malice and all guile and hypocrisies and envyings, and all evil speakings, desire the sincere milk of the Word, as newborn babes, so that you may grow by it; if truly you have tasted that the Lord is gracious.

If you truly have tasted His grace it will change your life! Sadly for many — salvation is not enough!

WILL YOU JUST LOVE HIM BACK?

The Priest and the Bus Driver

A priest and a bus driver both go to Heaven at the same time. St. Peter shows the bus driver his house, which is three houses away from God.

During this time, the priest is thinking to himself, “Since I’m a priest I should be right next to God!”

Then St. Peter turns towards the priest and beckons him to follow. The priest follows for three miles when they finally come to a house. St. Peter tells the priest that this is his house.

The priest looks horrified and says to St. Peter, “I don’t understand! The bus driver is really close to God and I’m a priest! That doesn’t make sense!”

St. Peter replies, “Oh, that’s easy to explain. When you preach, people sleep, When the bus driver drives, people pray.”

Actually it doesn’t work that way, but … it is cute to think about it like that!

Ephesians 2:8-9  |  For by grace you are saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.

God conspired to save mankind!

By Himself!

A Memorial

One Sunday morning, the pastor noticed little Alex was staring up at the large plaque that hung in the foyer of the church. The plaque was covered with names, and small American Flags were mounted on either sides of it.

The seven year old had been staring at the plaque for some time, so the pastor walked up, stood beside the boy, and said quietly, “Good morning Alex.” “Good morning pastor,” replied the young man, still focused on the plaque.

“Pastor McGwire, what is this?” Alex asked.  “Well, son, it’s a memorial to the men and women who died in the service.  “Soberly, they stood together, staring at the large plaque. Little Alex’s voice was barely audible when he asked, “Which service, the 8:45 or the 11:00?”

Making disciples requires discipline! Some of the things Jesus taught made people want to kill HIM but, everything he taught was to save mankind!

Sunday Morning

A mother called her son on Sunday morning to make sure he got out of bed and was ready for Church.

“I’m not going,” he replied. — “Yes, you are going, so get out of that bed!” his mother demanded. — “Give me ONE good reason why I should go,” said her son. — “I’ll give you THREE good reasons …

One, I’m your mother, and I say you’re going.
Two, you’re 40 years old, so you’re old enough to know better …
and three, you’re the Pastor, so you need to be there.”

PAUL WROTE TO CORINTH —
2 Corinthians 1:8-9 For it is our desire that you may not be without knowledge of our trouble which came on us in Asia, that the weight of it was very great, more than our power, so that it seemed that we had no hope even of life: Yes, we ourselves have had the answer of death in ourselves, so that our hope might not be in ourselves, but in  God who is able to give life to the dead. BBE

It was going so tough for Paul and company that they thought a death sentence was upon them.

JESUS SAID
John 16:33  |  These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but beo f good cheer; I have overcome the world.

You may have it easy or NOT! Jesus didn’t come to make it easy, He came TO SAVE US OUT OF IT~ Our path is just that! Ours!

Love HIM for it!, Pastor Doug

Morning people

“Somebody has well said that there are only two kinds of people in the world –there are those who wake up in the morning and say, “Good morning, Lord,” and there are those who wake  up in the morning and say, “Good Lord, it’s morning!”

Psalm 32:11 | Be glad in Jehovah, and rejoice, you righteous; and shout for joy, all you upright in heart.

1 Peter 1:24-25 |  For all flesh is as  grass, and all the glory of men as the flower of the grass. The grass withers, and its flower falls out, but the Word of the Lord endures forever. And this is the Word preached as gospel to you.

Don’t waste this life being cranky! We have the POWER to bring joy to those around us! it is a practice!

Preachers lamentations

A minister in Florida lamented that it was difficult to get his message across to his congregation. It’s so beautiful here in the winter, he said, that heaven doesn’t interest them. And it’s so hot here in the summer that hell doesn’t scare them.

Oh, but it will!

2 Peter 3:10-12 MKJV  |  But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with  a rushing noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat. And the earth and the works in it will be burned up. Then, all these things being about to be dissolved, what sort ought you to be in holy behavior and godliness, looking for and rushing the coming of the Day of God, on account of which the heavens, being on fire, will melt away, and the elements will melt, burning with heat?

Love and CAUTION in Christ to YOU!, Pastor Doug

Sit still!

“After a morning worship service, a mother with a fidgety seven-year-old boy told her Pastor how she finally got her son to sit still and be quiet. About halfway through the sermon, she leaned over and whispered, ‘If you don’t be quiet, the Pastor is going to lose his place and will have to start his sermon all over again!’ It worked.”

Psalm 46:10 MKJV  |  Be still, and know that I am God! I will be praised among the nations, I will be praised in the earth.

IN THIS HECTIC WORLD — THIS IS BETTER MEDICINE THAN EVER!

Love in Christ, Pastor Doug
